UAE Minister of Family

Sana bint Mohamed Suhail is the UAE Minister of Family since 2024, dedicated to advancing policies that increasing family formation in the UAE, fostering growth, empowering families, and strengthening their cohesion and stability, while also boosting fertility rates among Emirati families, reduce the risks of family breakdown, and mitigate its negative impacts on individuals and society. As part of her role as a minister, she is also in charge of protecting, empowering, and integrating vulnerable groups, including people of determination, senior citizens, orphans, and victims of abuse in collaboration with relevant authorities.
She has been serving as the Director General of the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority since April 2021, where she leads initiatives in health, child protection, and education for children from pregnancy to age eight. Her involvement in several human development and institutional development capacities has given her the platform to impact policy development, system development and finally, community development, focusing on People of Determination and young children.
Her key achievements include the establishment of the National Academy of Childhood Development, the roll out of a new child protection policy for the Emirate, kicking off a World Early Childhood Movement and pioneering the region’s first workplace award program that promotes parent-friendly workplaces across the country. Some of her past key achievements include the delivery of a national volunteering platform and policy for People of Determination.
She is currently a board member of the Global Alliance for Women Health (WEF); Zayed Higher for People of Determination Authority. A member of the Ministerial Development Council; Member of the Education, Human Development and Society Council, its Executive Committee, and its Social Sector Committee; Member of the Board of Trustees of the National Academy for Early Childhood Development; Member of the Board of Trustees of the Family Care Authority; Member of the Quality of Life Committee in Abu Dhabi; Member of the Community Development Committee, and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Integrating People of Determination.
Mrs. Suhail’s career journey spans more than 20 years in service of the community. She previously held positions including Undersecretary of the Ministry of Community Development, Assistant Secretary General for Policy and Communication at the General Secretariat of the UAE Cabinet (2013-2016), Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services at the Ministry of Public Works (2011-2013), and Assistant Secretary-General of the Executive Council of Dubai (2003-2010).
Mrs. Suhail holds a Master’s degree in Advanced Studies in Children’s Rights from the University of Geneva and a second Master’s degree in Diplomacy and International Affairs from UAE’s Zayed University. A graduate of the pioneering batch of Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Leadership Program.
