Mark Langley

Mark Langley currently serves as a strategic consultant and advisor to for-profit and not-for-profit organizations with a primary focus on strategy, global growth and development, operating model design, go-to-market, capability development and executive coaching. Mark is an INSEAD certified corporate director (IDP-C), a member of private equity expert networks, and advisory boards. 

Mark is the past President and CEO of Project Management Institute from 2010-2018 and its Chief Operating Officer Prior from 2002-2010. During Mark’s tenure PMI grew to be the world’s leading professional organization for project management serving those who work in or are impacted by projects including project managers, executive sponsors, organization decision makers, business analysts, PMO directors, chief strategy officers and others. Mark led PMI to become the leading ISO accredited standards development organization and certifying body for the project management profession. During this period gross certification grew from 40,000 to nearly 1.5M, membership grew >500% and revenue ~10X.  As chief advocate for PMI and the profession, Mark engaged leaders in over 50 countries advancing the understanding and valuing of project management, speaking on important opportunities and challenges facing organizations including talent management, change management, organization agility, complexity, PMOs, etc. And in order to position project management more thoughtfully and impactfully Mark created a strategic focus on brand by creating initiatives and concepts including the Brightline® Initiative and the Project Economy to ensure its relevance into the future. 

Previously, Mark served in various c-suite roles as an officer in private and publicly traded organizations as Chief Financial Officer, Vice President and Treasurer across various sectors including energy, environmental services, and the dot-com space. The shared characteristic of all of these organizations was an entrepreneurial mind-set, growth orientation and the important role people play in the success of organizations.  

Mark currently resides in Philadelphia, PA with his spouse of over 40 years, Gerri, where they raised four children and currently enjoy their three grandchildren.
