Grant Avery

Grant is an international consultant, author and speaker on maximizing value and reducing risk in projects, programmes, and portfolios.

He is the author of “Project Management, Denial, and the Death Zone” (ref. JRoss Inc, 2016), an award-winning book on reducing risk in high-risk projects and the PMI Book Club’s inaugural ‘Book of the Month’ March 2016. Grant is also the co-author of P3M3® v3, the British Government’s (and now international) ‘Portfolio, Programme, and Project Management Maturity Model’ (ref. Introduction to P3M3).

Grant’s areas of expertise include EPMO and P3M capability strengthening, project Success-Confidence Reviews (Independent Quality Assurance), benefits management, and advice on the use and review of the Better Business Cases® (BBC®) methodology.

Before establishing his company Outcome Insights in 2012 (ref. https://outcomeinsights.com/) Grant was the Director Project Advisory for KPMG in New Zealand. Prior to that, he led the introduction of the Gateway® major projects assurance review process, and the Investment Logic Mapping (ILM) process into New Zealand Government.
Grant has been assessed by the ‘Better Business Cases’ (BBC®) UK Standards Board’s Chief Examiner as an ‘Expert Business Case Reviewer’ (2015), has been a PMI licensed PMP® since 2001, and has an MBA (with Distinction) from Victoria University of Wellington.
