Business and Sustainability, Author of ‘The Trillion Dollar Shift’

Marga Hoek

Marga Hoek is a business leader, author and advisor working in sustainability. An Influential thought leader, she works with governments and businesses of all types and sizes. She takes a business approach to sustainability, combining innovation with new business models to explore the opportunities, as well as the pressures presented by changing demands, expectations and resources.

By looking at how capital and strategy are viewed, Marga helps businesses understand why and how to make changes, transforming every sector from tech to construction to finance. She explains how technology and tech companies can be a force for positive change, and how investment needs to pay attention to new pressures and opportunities in sustainability. She examines not just the urgency of making a change, but the many forces influencing ESG, from employee engagement to regulation, reputation management to innovation. And how with the right mindset and priorities business can work productively, and profitably, towards a sustainable future.

Marga’s book “The Trillion Dollar Shift” focuses on the commercial opportunities presented by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. With case studies from a wide range of sectors, from global multinationals to the latest innovators and social enterprises, it examines how business is both tackling huge challenges whilst also creating a positive, practical vision of the future. In her first book “New Economy Business”, Marga also looked at how business, sustainability and innovation can be brought together to create real, shared value. It explored seven management areas and demonstrated how transformative trends interact with sustainable business to evolve into tomorrow's economy.

As well as various senior and C-level roles in private and public organisations, Marga has served as CEO and Chairman of the Dutch Sustainable Business Association. She has worked extensively with governments and multinational institutions and has been an advisor and non-executive director for companies from start-ups to investment firms and real estate businesses. As well as being an award-winning author, she is a C-level mentor and is listed on the respected Thinkers50 roster of leading business thinkers.
